7 Simple Tips to Keep Your New Years Resolutions in 2013

bucket list blogHey Ordinary!

The New Year is fast approaching! Are you ready? The next few days I will be reevaluating 2012. How did it go?  2013 is a fresh new year and a fresh new start! Here are 7 Simple Tips to Keep Your New Years Resolutions in 2013:

1. Make them realistic: If they aren’t attainable and something you can see yourself sticking to, you are doomed for failure! Make them something you truly believe you can accomplish!

2. Focus on a few: Changing old habits is hard. Many people get overwhelmed with trying to change too many things at once, get frustrated, and quit. Just focus on a few things that you intend to keep. That way, you’re focusing your efforts on the goals you truly want.

3. Be specific: With any type of goal you are setting, you must be specific! Make it something you can track and measure. Don’t just write, “Lose weight.” How much do you want to lose? When do you want to lose it by? A better new years goal would be, “lose 30 lbs by Spring.”

4. Make a game plan: How are you going to reach your goal? How are you going to lose that 30 lbs by Spring? A good new years resolution might be, ”Work out consistently 3 times per week at the gym. About 15 minutes of cardio, 40 minutes of weights, and ending with stretches with a goal of losing 10 lbs in January and 30 lbs by the Spring.”

5. Tell a friend: If know one knows about your resolutions, it’s so much easier to quit! Get a “running buddy!” Get together with a friend to talk about your resolutions together and keep each other accountable. “As iron sharpens iron, one man sharpens another.”

bucket list blog6. Stick to it! Most people quit by January 15th! Stick to it! Changing habits is hard. Strive to make it to January 21st. After all, it takes 21 days to create a new habit, right? ;)

7. Don’t beat yourself up: If you miss a day or slip up. Don’t get discouraged! Get back on track and keep moving forward!

What new years resolutions do you have? :)

Here’s to an amazing 2013!

This Habit Will Change Your Life

Hey Ordinary!

A quote that has impacted my life is this:

“As a man thinkith in his heart, so is he.”

What does that mean in English? Who you think you are, what you think about, and how you think determines who you are! “The only difference between a ditch digger and a millionaire is how he thinks and how it spends his time.”

Well, how do you control your thoughts?

20 Seconds of Courage: Week #1

Hey Ordinary,

I wrote a post about this last week:

“Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

Last week, I prayed that God would put in my way decisions in which I would need insane courage to make. I really only had one. I was starting cold calls for a new part time sales position I decided to take at my buddy’s company, T&S Web Design. (so if you need help with a website let me know! (shameless self promotion*) I hadn’t made sales calls in a long time and to be honest, as irrational as it sounds, it was a little afraid to start…

Asian Parents are Afraid of Open Affection

Ordinary!

Dude! My mom hugged me today and told me that she loved me!!! What is the world coming to!? It wasn’t even awkward! lol :)

If you didn’t know, one of my new years resolutions for 2012 was to “Start telling my parents I love them when I leave.” Click here if you want to check out that blog :)

My mom was getting ready to leave to the airport to fly to Seattle this morning. I was leaving and I went to say “bye” while she was fixing her hair… and that’s when it happened. She turned off her blow drier, turned around, hugged me, and said “…love you. Don’t forget to eat your vegetables.” Weeeiiiiird…

My New Bucket List Goals!

Hey Ordinary!

Sorry, I haven’t posted up my first Toast Masters specch. I know some of you have asked me about it. I’m waiting for a friend to upload a portion of it so I can have better audio. I’ll get it up next week! I’ve added a few things to my bucket list and thought I’d share!

  1. Get 1,000 Twitter followers:

I know… I know… I used to make fun of Twitter. I always thought it was lame and pointless. I’d like to make money on my blog someday so Twitter can be a powerful tool to let people know about things I’m doing with Community Inspire. Also, if I ever want to let 100,000 people know about a book I’m releasing, speaking engagement, business I’m starting, or whatever, what better way than Twitter? I’m a little new at it, but I just broke 100 followers! (Ba-bam!) I think I’m off to a good start! Feel free to follow me, give me tips, or retweet my stuff :)
  2. Road trip across the United States while Couch Surfing:

I had a friend tell me about her Couch Surfing adventures recently. Instead of staying at hotels, she stayed with new friends she met on Couchsurfing.org. She saved a ton of money and met a ton of cool people. Not only that, but they were local to the area, they showed her around town, and introduced her to their circle of friends! Now she has friends all around the US. What a cool way to travel!

Bucket List #4 and #6: Learn How to Break Dance

Hey Ordinary!

I’m so excited about tonight!  I’ve ALWAYS wanted to learn how to do these! 2 things on my “Learn Something New” section of my bucket list are:

Bucket List #4: Learn how to windmill

Bucket List #6: Learn how to circle glide

Tonight some of my friends from Breakthrough Hip Hop are going to teach me and some friends! I’ll probably take a while to learn so I’ll have a video uploaded when/if we are able to pull off these moves. What does learning how to dance have to do with success with life? … Iono. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Success is great, but if you’re not enjoying it along the way, is it really success? What have you always wanted to do, but haven’t yet?

Wish us luck! Yeah! :D

A Cup of Coffee with Mike!

Hey Ordinary!

Sorry, I haven’t been posting as much as I would like to. There’s been a lot of changes going on in my life.

I just Facebook-ed this to a number of business friends of mine in Oklahoma City. Instead of sitting down with everyone and buying them a cup of coffee to catch up and to update everyone with some of the changes in my life, I just thought I would send them this video instead. :)

An update on my goals for 2012:

  1. 1. Interview 10 self made multimillionaires: Currently, I’ve got 2 people who have agreed to let me interview them. I talked to a friend who’s a very successful business person in Oklahoma City and she told me that it will take time to build the trust to sit down with people. People are very successful financially tend to be cautious of people at first ’cause everyone is always wanting to reach into their pockets. So I’m not gonna try to do the “one interview a month” thing like previously planned, but it’s still a goal I’m pursuing. If anyone has a recommendation on who I should speak with, let me know!

2. Be apart of Leadership Oklahoma: Why do I want to do this? On my bucket list, I have “Be a Who’s Who in Oklahoma City.” If I want to have influence, I feel Leadership Oklahomais a must. It’ll help me understand the needs of my community, help me make really good connections, and will get me behind closed doors. (I always love behind behind closed doors. Makes me feel cool, lol!)

The same friend from before gave me some advice on this as well. Apparently there are some other leadership organizations that I should take advantage of too. This year, I’ll apply to LOYAL (a leadership program for young professionals here in Oklahoma City in the fall). Next year, in 2013, I’ll apply for Leadership Oklahoma City (more focused on just our city). Then the year after that in 2014, I’ll apply for Leadership Oklahoma (over all of Oklahoma).

3. Train for my MMA Fight in 2013: This has been going really well! Check out “Why Do I want to be in an MMA Fight?” and “My MMA Training: Month #1“.

4. Wake up early every day and set out time to grow spiritually and mentally: I was doing really well the first few weeks, but then I started slacking. I recently started back up again. If you see me post on my Facebook a picture of coffee, be sure to encourage me with a “Way to go Mike!” or something, lol!

5. Be the top person at my job:  Since, started a new job with SpokesMe, I need to commit to this don’t I? Haha- They are planning on having me speak to colleges and represent the company in various places, but for the first month or so I’ll be in sales.

SOOOOOOO… let me know if your business or a business you know would like to be apart of this genius-ness. I remember hearing about how Groupon worked and felt like an idiot because it was such a good idea. Same thing with this. But now I get to be on the ground floor of it. Super jacked, Holmes… super jacked ;)

How are your New Years Resolutions going? Also, what do you think about the video coffee message to friends on Facebook? Innovative? Cheesy? Innovativinally-cheesy? Let me know!
